Twilight As a Musical?

by miss d on July 7, 2009

Twilight as a musical. That’s the thought that crossed my mind the other day. I’m a huge musical theater fan, so the ultimate combination of two of my favorite things would be Twilight and musical theater. Twilight on stage? Sure…why not?

The Twilight soundtrack appearance on “So You Think You Can Dance” last week was cool, but a Twilight musical would be even better.

Would it be a parody like Harry Potter the Musical? (I’ve only watched the first video of this and I found it highly entertaining and goofy).

Or, would it actually be a serious, well-thought out adaptation of the book and movie? That would be quite a task to tackle.

Would it have a sweeping orchestral score? Or would it be more of an edgy rock score, in keeping along with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke’s indie style?

Ah, the possibilities.

And of course most importantly, who would be cast to play our beloved Edward Cullen and Bella Swan? Do you cast famous actors who sing or experienced Broadway stars?

Aaron Tveit (Catch Me If You Can, Next to Normal, Wicked – also seen in Gossip Girl as Tripp Vanderbilt) seems to be Broadway’s current “It” male star, and would likely do a great job as Edward (I don’t want to hear any “ews” about this…he’s hot). Looks-wise he may not fit the bill like Robert Pattinson does, but he is good looking, has angular features, and is a phenomenal actor and singer.

As for Bella, I’m not so sure who would play her. Lea Michele (Spring Awakening – currently starring in Glee) came to mind, but she’s not pale so that won’t work. Heaven forbid they put some atrocious make-up on her to make her look pale.

Just bear in mind that my initial thoughts with these two are not based on their looks, but more for their acting ability and singing. I can forgive somebody’s looks (in not initially looking the part) if they have talent.

I’ll leave you to ponder this. Let me know what you think. It’s so fun to speculate!
