Bella's Lullaby - Twilight Piano Scene
Remember that moment when Edward played “Bella’s Lullaby” on the piano?
It was a tender, romantic moment and one of my favorite scenes in Twilight. I don’t normally get too emotional during movies, but for some reason this scene got to me. My only regret is that it wasn’t longer.
At the sound of the first notes, I immediately thought it was perfect for the scene – haunting yet beautiful at the same time. As I watched Edward’s hands flow over the keys, I could feel his tormented love for Bella through the music. And as the music progressed, I was moved even more. We Twilighters all know that he wrote it just for her, the love of his life.
Rob Pattinson, who plays Edward, is coincidentally a talented musician. He originally composed a version of Bella’s Lullaby for the movie. When the director Catherine Hardwicke heard he was a musician, she thought it would be great to give him an opportunity to create a few of his own compositions for the scene.{mtv1}
Although she liked his version, she felt that it didn’t fit the rest of the movie’s score. She ended up going with Carter Burwell, a seasoned veteran composer of film soundtracks. I don’t think Rob minded so much since Catherine used two other pieces he wrote on the soundtrack.{mtv2}
Although I would have liked to hear Rob Pattinson’s version, I have no complaints. Like I said, I thought Carter Burwell’s version was perfect. It is an inspirational masterpiece that has the essence of romance, beauty, and undying love all in one package.
